Interview with Director Tomas Terzano
Congratulations! Why did you make your film?
I made this film because I owed it to me. I've been filming a lot of advertising, video clips and fashion for such a long time but my only true love is fiction and that's the only path for me. Hehe, it sounds dramatic but films are why I do what I do. My first and true love.
Imagine I’m a member of the audience. Why should I watch this film?
I feel that there is something special in this film. At the last festival, we've shown the film, the festival programmer said to de audience this about the film: "You've quite never seen something like this". This doesn't mean good or bad, there are a lot of chances you don't like my movie or think it's weird or stupid. Whichever way you feel about it, I'm already pleased by knowing you are on a special ride. This sounds pretentious but I can assure you that the main thing about the film is that it doesn't take itself too seriously.

How do personal and universal themes work in your film?
There are two main themes in the film. The first one is a life about the passion of our main character and how it consumes all of his life, alienating everybody around them. And how this character will have to make a life balance by the end of his life. What was the important thing in life? Does it make sense to follow with all of your guts everything you wanted? Is it worth it? And the other theme is about perspectives. How the eye of the beholder marks the tone and the reality of our leading character. He goes from a high to the deepest low just by changing the optics. There is something quite universal but still relevant to these times about it.
How have the script and film evolved over the course of their development?
I think that every creative process changes and evolves once you finish the script and start with production. In each new stage, you have to be open to the energy people will bring to de project. It is not a one-person game and I don't believe in perfectionism. If you surround yourself with the best talented, more energy-positive people you will be fine, trust the people you surround yourself with, they can be really few, but listen, feed off each other. Just listen and look very carefully at how the project evolves and what it needs in a new stage. Cut out your favorite line or scene. Usually, the things you thought worked the most in the film, don't.

What type of feedback have you received so far?
All sorts of feedback. But the best was at the last festival somebody told me: "It is brave of you to do something like this", and that got me thinking...... Because it doesn't mean that they liked it, it means that he understood we strive to achieve something true, something that is ours.
Has the feedback surprised or challenged your point of view?
Of course, because during a lot of time, I hated my own project Schettinimous because it wasn't a people pleaser, it always got mixed reviews on my first screenings and that got me very very anxious. Once it came out, I realised that this is the main reason why I do things: I will try to stay true to what interests me, what I want to see or how I want to shoot it. It doesn't have to be super profound, or dramatic. It can be super innocent, and playful without taking itself seriously and that is OK.
Never go with "what's cool" at the moment or try to do something with an objective more than JUST MAKING THE DAMN FILM.
If it ignites your interest, somebody will be there to enjoy it and that is more than enough.

What are you looking to achieve by having your film more visible on www.wearemovingstories.com?
I just feel that a tiny project from Argentina made with a lot of heart and a couple of crazy beautiful passionate people gets to be seen.
Who do you need to come on board (producers, sales agents, buyers, distributors, film festival directors, journalists) to amplify this film’s message?
Absolutely everyone is invited to come and see the film, talk about it, if you like it say it, if you don't also. We need to keep on building this community and protect it because it's getting super tough. If we don't put in our work and go and see, and talk with people about their projects, future plans, and strategies in this industry that we love is gonna get even smaller. We need to feed off each other's energy, and to know that there are a lot of people with amazing talent waiting for the shot for something bigger.
Behind the scenes of Schettinimous
What type of impact and/or reception would you like this film to have?
I'm only hoping to get a reception with open arms and for us as an audience to be open for different rides. I feel that nowadays we consume in a variety of multiple formats and maybe that is also a possibility for the filmmaker to explore the story and the narrative. Use our multitasking, multi-consuming platforms to include in the narrative and create a new sense of "reality" in the film.
What other projects are the key creatives developing or working on now?
For the moment, I'm focusing on developing new scripts or ideas that light the spark for the next adventure, ideally to end up making my first long feature. That's the dream!
Also, I do a lot of commercials and video clips that are a beautiful way to stay in motion and try new approaches to my craft, also we need to pay de rent hehe.
